My Story

.......I recall my earliest artistic bent when I was 9, Santa left me a packet of colours and a scrapbook and I eagerly filling it with cartoon sketches from comics. Right through school I loved painting and drawing, and remember a history project that had more drawing of people in historical costumes than writing! With ‘A’ level Art firmly under my belt I was guided to the London College of Furniture, where I trained for 4 years as a Designer and Maker of Furniture.

My husband-to-be enrolled on the same course. He was Welsh, as was my mother. Nobody could understand his accent except me, & so I became his interpreter. Having a natural bond and liking each other quite a lot… We spend our final year as Mr. & Mrs.

I started my working career as a contract designer in the Furniture Industry, then, later having a family, I decided to be a stay-at-home mum and encouraged creativity in my children. Many years later my decision to qualify as a Design & Technology teacher felt like giving something back to the youth of today. I taught for 10 years and was humbled by how my enthusiasm for my subject rubbed off on so many pupils.

However, early retirement was calling and so sailing around the Mediterranean in our 27’ yacht for 15 years was a breath of fresh air along with rediscovered my love of watercolour painting at every opportunity en route.  It was an idyllic lifestyle. Four grandchildren later we decided to return to our home and to get immersed in family life.

Then, in 2022 tragedy struck!

I lost my soul mate to MND 11 months after his diagnosis. He encouraged me to follow my heart and paint, and after the first numbing year I decided that I had to do just that.

ART HAS KEPT ME SANE!

I paint most days and although I am a watercolourist, I also like working with inks and experiment with many techniques. My portfolio is eclectic, and painting a variety of subjects that inspire me keeps my artwork fresh. Exhibiting regularly is now part of my artistic life too.
